Core competencies
Modern societies depend on the reliable operability of their critical infrastructures. Todays networked world requires coordinated efforts and holistic approaches to protect critical infrastructures from the growing number of attacks. Only together can the nations of the world successfully protect themselves of the ever-changing threats to their economy, security and well-being.
The vision of the institute is to provide a significant contribution for the protection of critical infrastructures. Even during a persistent threat it has to be ensured, that society and economy can be provided with essential goods and services; significant disruption to public security has to be prevented.
The institute develops appropriate methods and instruments to detect threats to critical infrastructures at an early stage, to evaluate them and to be able to take appropriate defensive measures.
By cooperating with research institutes from all DLR research programs the institute will benefit from DLR’s huge competence in the fields of space, aviation, energy, transport, security and digitization. The possibility of close linking with DLR scientists from those areas is one of the strengths of the new institute.
