Project DescriptionRoll-out of nZEB buildings, together with the ambitious 2030 targets for a 40% cut in greenhouse gas emissions
and 27% renewable energy consumption result in a constantly evolving urban landscape with a growing trend of
installing highly insulating environmentally friendly materials and building integrating renewable energy
components, e.g. solar thermal collectors, photovoltaic systems etc.This new urban landscape demands actions
for the protection of lives of citizens, in case of major catastrophic events. It is essential to address safety
aspects towards equally ensuring public health and prosperity. The number of people who have lost their lives in
the recent disaster in Greece that followed the unprecedented scale of Grenfell Tower fire and the huge fires in
California, Portugal and Spain highlight the need for efficient actions that account for the most recent
construction trends. It thus becomes a priority to improve physical understanding of building fires and factors
influencing them. In that scope we are looking for new partnership to form a consortium towards investigating
fire safety methodologies that would ensure security in smart cities.
