Project DescriptionNatural hazards have a potentially highly traumatic impact on psychological functioning. This is notably true
for
children and adolescents, whose vulnerability depends on their level of cognitive and emotional
development.
Many studies focused on psychological interventions following disasters, but little is known about
interventions
aimed at building children’s emotional resilience to combat the psychological trauma associated with future
earthquakes. In previous research we investigated children’s representation of earthquakes and tested a
training
enhancing primary school children’s understanding of and ability to regulate emotions associated with
earthquakes. We are interested in generalizing these findings to other natural hazards, also developing a
theoretical model on the psychological functioning in such emergencies.
